A young grey seal pup has been washed up on Brean beach, just a fortnight after a common seal was found on the sands.
Wildlife carers from Secret World at East Huntspill were called to Brean Cove on Sunday afternoon (October 19th) after a walker spotted the young seal near the base of Brean Down.
Spokesman Jamie Baker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The seal is very frail and underweight. It is being tube fed at the moment to try and build it back up.”
He added: “The vet has looked at it today and it is worse for wear. It will need some very careful attention.”
Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report earlier this month how a common seal had been washed up on the beach at Brean. The seal was nursed back to good health and was due to be released in Wales.
It is not the first time that marine animals have been washed ashore in the Burnham area in recent years.
A porpoise was washed up on Burnham beach in July last year and a young seal pup was found alive on Berrow beach in November 2005. A dead seal was also washed up on Burnham-On-Sea’s beach in June this year.
