Photo special: Burnham-On-Sea bursts into bloom for annual contest

A vibrant splash of colour has been added to Burnham-On-Sea’s streets in recent days as the town gears up to take part in this year’s Britain In Bloom competition.

Hanging baskets have been hung along the town’s High Street and flower beds and pots have been planted, as organisers make step up their preparations for this year’s competition.

It comes after the disappointment of last year, when Burnham came bottom in its category in the South West in Bloom competition.

Burnham In Bloom organiser Dave Perrett told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Wednesday (June 4th) that everything is being done to ensure the town is as colourful as possible for the judges’ inspection during July.

“We’ve hung 27 baskets along the High Street this week and have had good support from the council with many flower beds already starting to look great, so I’m optimistic we’ll do better in the overall competition,” he said.

Dave added that more house entries are needed from residents in Burnham, with only 12 being submitted so far. “It has been a slow start, so we would urge anyone who hasn’t entered their garden for the competition yet to pick up an entry form from the Tourist Information Centre,” he said.
