Young Megan Rundle from Burnham-On-Sea’s Avenue Tennis Club Academy was celebrating this week after a fantastic win at the Bournemouth Open.
The youngster is pictured being congratulated by participants during the first day of the club’s annual Summer Holiday Tennis Camp this week.
Megan won her age category after several closely-fought games on her way to the final.
In the semi-final, at 9-7 down, she played well under pressure to take the next four points and win by two clear points.
The standard of the LTA Grade 3 tournament was very high and in the final Megan faced the girl who had beaten her in her first box match 11-9. But she kept her cool and used her power and control to win the match 10-6 and lift the trophy.
Parents Scott and Clare watched on with a mixture of excitement and pride, with her mother telling Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re very proud of her achievements over the last year. She’s won over 12 tournaments with this one being the furthest she has travelled to.”
Megan’s Coach, Vinny Duddy, who is also Avenue Head Coach, said he was pleased for her. “She has really worked hard to get to where she is and I was very pleased for Megan’s parents who have been making a huge commitment in getting her to training and off to the tournaments around the country.”
Meanwhile, the club’s Summer Holiday Junior Tennis Camp is underway and is now running for three weeks over the school summer holidays between 25th July and 26th August.
Some places are still available and the club is also running a new members deal during July where new members can join the club for half the normal price.
During 10th-14th August the club will also be running its Annual Open Adult Competition where competitors from all over the country will be attending. The following week (15th – 21st August) will see the 93rd Burnham On Sea Junior Open Tennis Tournament taking place where juniors from all over the UK will compete in the LTA Grade 3 competition.
