Burnham-On-Sea Police, Coastguards, hovercrafts and lifeboats were put on alert on Monday afternoon (January 10th) after a distressed woman was spotted in difficulty in mud on Brean beach.

The middle-aged woman was spotted by police in a distressed state walking towards the sea at 4.35pm, almost 150 metres from the beach near Berrow Church.

Burnham Coastguard Steve Bird told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Several police officers at the scene managed to drag the lady safely back from the mud and she was placed on a stretcher before being taken away by ambulance for treatment.”

The hovercraft and lifeboats were stood down en route to the scene.
