Warning of high winds and heavy rain in Burnham-On-Sea area

-

Weather forecasters have issued a severe weather warning for the Burnham-On-Sea area as high winds of up to 70mph sweep in.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, saying the winds could exceed 60mph along the Bristol Channel coastline.

BBC Points West weather forecast that Ian Fergusson says the winds could be “disruptive and damaging” at their peak early on Thursday and then again later on Friday.

A yellow weather warning is in place for the Burnham area on Friday/Saturday when high winds and heavy rain are forcecast.

A Met Office spokesman says: “Southwesterly winds will strengthen through Friday. Gales will become widespread later on Friday, persisting well into Saturday whilst becoming more westerly.”

“Gusts of up to 70 mph are likely around some coasts exposed to the west or southwest. Winds will gradually ease on Saturday.”
