Almost 200 people attended Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Choral Society’s popular annual Christmas concert on Thursday night (13th December).

The society’s 51 singers were in fine voice as they performed their concert in the Church of Our Lady and the English Martyrs in Highbridge Road for the first time.

The festive programme, led by Nicholas Bromilow, included Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus, Ubi Caritas, Bach’s Chorales from Christmas Oratorio, and popular Christmas songs by Parry, Gruber and Rachmaninoff.

Society Chairman Peter Read told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were delighted to see such a superb turnout and thank everyone who came along, including the town’s Mayor and Mayoress, Bill and Frances Hancock. Everyone at the church was so helpful to us.”

The society also sang a premier of a brand new Christmas song written and arranged by several choir members.

The society was also joined by several members of Burnham and Highbridge Town Band, who played Christmas music during the evening.

Burnham and Highbridge Choral Society’s new Spring term starts on Thursday 10th January 2019 at 7.30pm in the Methodist Church Hall, Burnham when they will be rehearsing great music including Mozart’s Requiem. New members will be welcome.
