brean beach safety leaflet

Brean Parish Council has this week unveiled a newly-updated beach information leaflet which aims to make holidaymakers more aware of safety over the tourist season.

25,000 copies of the leaflet have been printed and will be given out to visitors as they drive onto the beach and head to local holiday parks in a bid to reduce the number of incidents over the tourist season.

Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, Jon Harris, Brean Parish Council Chairman, said: “It’s a pro-active way to get the safety message across. We have been publishing a leaflet for several years and this year it’s been fully updated.”

The leaflet contains advice about driving and parking on local beaches, staying away from mud, checking tide times, and safely walking dogs on Brean Down – all issues that have led to incidents for local emergency services during the past year.

The publication also contains information about local by-laws and rules on land yachting, quad biking, horse riding, jet skiing, kite buggying, gliding, barbecues and the use of remote control cars.

“The beach warden has the authority to stop or relocate any activity or behaviour deemed by them to be potentially dangerous or annoying to other beach users.”
