A teenager was air-lifted to hospital on Sunday afternoon (August 24th) after being injured in a bike accident on Burnham-On-Sea beach.

Coastguards from Burnham and Weston were called to an area of the beach north of the low lighthouse shortly after 2.30pm.

Lifeguards from Burnham and Berrow also arrived quickly on scene to help the 16 year-old girl and an ambulance crew provided treatment on the beach.

The yellow Devon and Somerset air ambulance was called to the scene and the girl, who is from the Birmingham area, was carried by stretcher to the helicopter and then flown to hospital.

A Coastguard spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The girl had been riding a motorbike along the beach when it’s believed she had struck some soft sand and come off, leaving her with leg, pelvis and possible spinal injuries. She was flown to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.”
