Burnham-On-Sea air cadets train with RAF rescue helicopter crew

-

Young air cadets from Burnham-On-Sea took to the skies on Sunday (November 3rd) during a day of training with RAF Search and Rescue.

A dozen cadets travelled to Chivenor in Devon where they met the RAF crew that operates the life-saving helicopter before joining them in a training session.

Jeff Jackson, CI 290 Sqn Detachment, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A party of 12 cadets and two staff from Burnham’s 290 Squadron ATC spent a thrilling morning practising winching operations with C Flight No 22 Squadron Search and Rescue based at Chivenor.”

“Once on board they were also treated to a half-hour flight along the Devon coastline before returning to Chivenor.”

The group meets every Thursday evening at 7.30pm-9.45pm and provides a wide range of activities, varying from adventure and leadership training, to gliding.

Those interested in joining should visit the unit, located in Highbridge Road (opposite the entrance to the Sea Cadets access road in Cassis Close) or call 01934 647805 or 01278 781409 during these times.
