Police have said this week that a dog that attacked a teenager in Highbridge’s Apex Park, leaving her with nasty injuries, is to be destroyed.

Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here earlier this month that the 17 year-old girl had been with her Springer Spaniel on Saturday November 29th when they were attacked by a white Bull Mastiff. Both sustained nasty injuries.

A police spokesman confirmed this week: “The dog was found to be a banned pitbull type after examination, which is was corroborated by the RSPCA, and is due to be destroyed.”

“The owner was located in Highbridge and co-operated with our investigation and the victim has since declined to prosecute.”

Sedgemoor District Council’s Dog Warden worked with the police to identify the animal.

Park users have been asked to report any other incidents to Sedgemoor District Council’s Dog Warden on 01278 435210 or the Police on 101.
