A sponsored bear parachute jump from the roof of a church near Burnham-On-Sea has raised hundreds of pounds.

Mark Parish Church held the unique fundraising event on Sunday during its two-day flower show, featured here.

Dozens of children’s teddies and stuffed toys were fitted with parachutes and lifted to the top of the church before being thrown off – all for a small sponsorship fee.

“We wanted to do something a little different to raise funds while getting local youngsters involved,” one of the organisers, Karen Moncrieff, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Velcro was used to fit each bear with their parachute and then a fishing rod was used to winch them up to the roof-top where Colin Holdom and Tony Buncombe launched them into the air!” All the funds are earmarked for the church.
