A rescue hovercraft and a team of Coastguards rushed to Brean on Sunday afternoon (June 14th) after five people got into difficulty on the mudflats.
Beach wardens raised the alarm after spotting two children, aged 9 and 12, with three adults struggling in waist-deep mud besides Brean Down approximately half a mile from the shore.
Coastguards from Burnham were called to the scene and The Spirit Of Lelaina hovercraft, run by Burnham-based charity BARB, was also driven to the beach.
Two of the Coastguards walked out along the foot of the Down to help the family, who were on a day trip from Bristol, back to the safety of the beach where they were given safety advice.
Brean beach warden Dave Furber told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The group had been seen in waist-deep mud and there was concern for their safety. Fortunately, they all managed to get out without any injuries.”
