Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge sing-along

A group of local residents has been formed in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge to organise a big sing-along from doorsteps every Thursday at 8pm to pay tribute to NHS staff and frontline workers during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The group, called ‘Highbridge/Burnham/Surrounding Areas Sing Big Time For The Frontline’, is being overseen by Linny Whitcombe from Highbridge and Mel Elton from Bridgwater.

They began the group on social media several weeks ago and now the group has almost 3,000 members who sing to honour frontline heroes every week. The group also hosts competitions to raise funds.

Mel told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The aim of the group is to sing each week for all workers on the frontline who are putting themselves at risk during the Coronavirus.”

“We have a group of just under 3,000 members who all interact and take part throughout the week with competitions and giveaways funded by local businesses who donate, and competitions for children to get involved.”

“They help keep them busy through this tough time. I myself am training in mental health and feel people’s mentality and wellbeing is essential at a time like this.”

“I offer support and advice for anyone struggling through the group page – we have built a community network of support which is great with lots of positive feedback that has come back.”

“We have people making extra PPE which we are distributing to those in need also, then every Thursday linny gets out and sings with many others with a song selected by public vote on the page.”
