Burnham and Highbridge to join national chain of beacons to mark Queen’s Jubilee

-

Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge will be joining a nationwide initiative to light beacons to commemorate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next year.

At a town council meeting this week, it was confirmed that the council has received four proposals from residents for where the beacons and permanent commemorations should be located after an appeal for ideas last month.

The beacons will be lit on June 2nd, 2022 as part of the four-day commemorative celebration of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Town Council Clerk Sam Winter told a meeting on Monday night: “We’ve had four suggestions and our plan is to start an online poll in December before going back to the working group committee.”

She added: “Residents have also suggested that the council might want to host an open day for a display of royal memorabilia from members of the community. We are able to do that under the council’s insurance and I’m talking to the Visitor Information Centre.”
