Burnham-On-Sea care home holds touching Remembrance ceremony

-

A Burnham-On-Sea care home has held a touching ceremony to mark Remembrance.

Stratton House in Rectory Road invited former war veterans and elderly people from neighbouring nursing and residential homes with care staff.

It was held in the care home’s main garden, which were specially decorated with giant poppies to commemorate the event.

Operations Manager for Angels Ltd (Stratton House & Kingsleigh), Tracy Peart says: “Stratton House wanted to do something very special to mark Armistice Day with huge participation by residents, who helped cut sheets of A4 red vinyl into poppies and also painted papers cases in red to create poppies to decorate windows.”

“This was a fantastic effort all round with a local Bugler, Dan Poole, playing The Last Post followed by a two minute silence.”

“We had veteran residents from both of our homes in attendance and one in particular in full dress complete with war medals.

Refreshments were served as families looked on in thought and some had brought photos of their loved ones who had served their country well.”

The event was attended by local Councillor Phil Harvey, residents families and members of the local community.

This would not have been possible without the amazing effort by our Home Manager Julie Keep, who stated “I was honoured to organise such a tribute to the men and women who gave everything so that we may have the lives we live today.”
