Burnham in Bloom competition starts as organisers bid for gold award

-

Businesses and home owners across Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge are being encouraged to enter the town’s annual Burnham In Bloom flower competition, with entries opening this week.

This year’s competition has sixteen categories for locals to enter, ranging from best front garden to best decorated shop window. Entry forms are available to download here until the deadline of June 30th.

Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, organiser Dave Perrett, the Chairman of Burnham In Bloom, said he also has high hopes that Burnham can strike gold in this year’s South West in Bloom Awards.

“We have taken onboard the judges’ comments from last year when we won a Silver Gilt award, and have high hopes of winning gold,” he said.

“The public flower planters in the town centre have been cleaned them out and planted them for the summer and Sedgemoor District Council has taken over doing all of the hanging baskets.”

“We are grateful to all the shops in Burnham that are sponsoring flower containers this year and those who are maintaining them. The sponsors are Gardiner Whites, Home Hardware, GW Hurley, Shoe Zone, Coffee Corner, Nick Tolley, and Blue Diamond Garden Centres.”

Dave added that Burnham In Bloom still needs volunteers. “There are just three of us running it all, and we’d like more help with fundraising and maintaining the flower containers.”
