Burnham-On-Sea Rugby Club launches first ladies team in 25 years

-

Burnham-On-Sea Rugby Club celebrated a major milestone at the weekend as its brand‑new ladies team, the Wild Racks, played their first ever match together.

The squad faced Ashley Down in a friendly at the BASC Ground on Sunday (March 22nd), marking the club’s first women’s fixture in 25 years.

Club Chairman Lee Berry described the moment as “an important milestone” for Burnham RFC.

He added the women’s team has grown rapidly since forming last summer: “This is a massive milestone and we are very pleased to have a ladies team again.”

“What began with around ten interested players has now expanded to a squad of 25 local women, ranging in age from 18 to their 40s. The team has been training twice a week and building momentum.”

He says captain Lacey May Selby was the spark behind the revival, first messaging the club a year ago to ask about setting up a women’s side. Word spread quickly, and the group continues to grow. Lee praised the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the players.

Training sessions take place every Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm, and the club says all women are welcome to come along and get involved.
