Members of Burnham-On-Sea Swimming Club are celebrating this week after achieving a top regional win and several other successes.

The club has won the Cotswold Series winning trophy in the C Final. It comes after the Cotswold Series Finals took place recently at 1610 Chilton Trinity but, due to the pool being unsafe, the C Final was stopped after event number eight.

Following the gala, all health and safety issues were resolved quickly, but all the swimmers and supporters understood that the health and safety of the swimmer was paramount.

Burnham had qualified top for the final and at the time the gala was halted were in the lead by one point.

Following several days of waiting, the Cotswold Series committee finally decided that the winners, second and third places for the C Final would be awarded to those who qualified in those positions going into the final.

So, the Burnham club has received trophies from the Somerset ASA President with the Club’s Secretary, Kelly Podbury, presenting the trophy to Sophie Wills and Josie Hooper, this year’s girls club captains.

“Burnham has also had success in the ‘four seasons galas’ this year, finishing by winning two out of the four galas, winning the last one swam at home, Brean Splash on Saturday 29th June.”

“The committee of the four seasons invited Bridgwater and Wells to join us this year when we were able to accommodate which made for some really good racing for our 12 and under swimmers.”

“During the same weekend, Burnham also entered 17 swimmers in the Clevedon and Chard Open Meet, a very busy weekend for us.”

“This was the greatest number of swimmers we had entered into Open Meets, our swimmers achieved 20 personal best times and a massive 22 medals, which is testament to the standard of our swimming and the commitment and dedication of our swimmers.”

“The club continues to thrive, with new teachers being trained every year to support our learn to swim and a good standard of swimmers coming through to club and swimming competitively or for fitness, the future of the club is set for years to come.”

“The club would like to recognise all the swimmers who have committed themselves to the club and thank all the teachers and volunteers who continue to give up their time to support their swimmers and the club.”

“We would also like to thank our pool provider Brean Splash for great service and continued partnership with us to encourage the swimmers to their season’s successes.”
