Kind-hearted Burnham-On-Sea resident knits 450 ‘ear-savers’ for NHS staff

-

A kind-hearted Burnham-On-Sea lady has knitted hundreds of ‘ear savers’ to help frontline NHS staff and health carers working on the frontline of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Many health staff are currently wearing face masks tucked behind their ears for hours at a time, causing rubbing and making their ears very sore. The ‘ear saver’ slips onto the ear to take the pressure off the skin and avoid rubbing.

Joy Masterman has has knitted the ear savers for south west NHS staff, the Children Hospice in Devon, the regional Intensive Care Unit, and care homes here in Burnham.

She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’ve made 450 ear savers. I started when there was a request on social media from the south west NHS asking if people could make ear savers.”

“Because I enjoy knitting and crochet I wanted to help them at this difficult time and I’ve had really positive feedback from everyone.”

She says it’s rewarding to help make the lives of health carers a little more comfortable at this busy time.
