Burnham-On-Sea’s MEP backs calls for a second referendum on Brexit deal

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s MEP (Member of the European Parliament) has this week said she supports calls for a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal.

Julie Girling said: “I believe that a final decision by the British people is not only desirable but a constitutional necessity.”

“Once the choice was made to put membership of the European Union to the people as a whole, they became the only legitimate source to resolve any serious conflicts that then arose. This is evidenced by the parliamentary gridlock now on display.”

MPs will vote on the Prime Minister’s Brexit deal, which sets out the terms of Britain’s exit from the EU and includes a declaration on the outline of the future relations, in the middle of January.

The deal will only come into force if both the UK and European parliaments approve it.
