Burnham-On-Sea’s Princess Theatre Company are preparing for their next planned production, a revival of 1920s farce Rookery Nook by Ben Travers, which is set in a thinly-disguised Burnham – and they are looking for new talent to help put the show on.

The company are looking for actors and back stage team members of all ages from 18 years upwards to join in with this production.

The action takes place on a summer night in the lounge-hall of Rookery Nook, a house at Chumpton-on-Sea, Somerset. The play was written by Ben Travers when he lived in Burnham-On-Sea in the late 1920s.

PTC Chairman Ollie Hulme told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Rookery Nook is great fun – a traditional farce with lots of over the top characters, panic, confusion, hilarity, innocence, misunderstandings and people running in and out of bedrooms.”

“We are planning to present the show in June 2019, and hope people will get involved in this community production – as well as actors we’ll welcome all and any support we can get so we can be sure that we do Ben Travers work justice.”

To introduce people to the play, the group will be holding a read-through of the script for Rookery Nook at 7pm on Tuesday December 11th at The Princess Theatre, and the company is inviting anyone interested to come along.

Founded in October 2013, The PTC has written and performed original pieces ranging from comedy to tragedy, Shakespearian adaptations, Greek dramas and tales of the carnival in Somerset, as well as helping raise money for the RNLI with the production Out Of The Mist in 2014.

The company meets at the Princess Theatre in Burnham-On-Sea when they’re working on a production and is supported by the management at the Princess Theatre and by Burnham and Highbridge Town Council.

If you’d like to get involved but will not be able to make it on Tuesday, you can get in touch by email at princesstheatrecompany@gmail.com. You can also find the PTC at their website www.princesstheatrecompany.co.uk.
