Burnham Swim and Sports Academy praises Brent Knoll pupils on ‘unprecedented achievement’

-

Burnham Swim and Sports Academy has praised students at Brent Knoll Primary School after “an unprecedented achievement.”

All 22 Year 6 students have swum 25 metres after just four 1-hour swimming lessons at the Burnham-On-Sea pool.

Jenny Parfitt, School Swimming Coordinator at Burnham Swim and Sports Academy, says: “This is an unprecedented achievement. Our dedicated school swimming team are focussed on giving specialised lessons to children from 2.5 years old to 11 years old.”

“Our focus is ensuring all children are safe in and around water, being relaxed and confident swimmers, and having an awareness of the risks water can pose.”

“Some of the children from Brent Knoll were complete novices in the water, and unable to swim at all. So it is fantastic that they now have the skills required to get themselves to safety, float and swim 25m unaided.”

“Part of the national curriculum is for children to be able to swim competently and confidently over a distance of 25m, use a variety of strokes, and perform safe self-rescue in different situations.”
