No day change for Burnham Carnival as organisers stick to Mondays

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s carnival will be held on the second Monday of November in 2015, organisers have confirmed this week as they ended discussions about switching the day of the event.

Burnham and Highbridge Carnival Committee met on Wednesday evening (March 12th) when the day of next year’s procession was discussed following previous proposals to move the event to a Friday night instead.

However, Chairman Phil New told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “There was a good discussion about the options but it was agreed that we’d stick with the Monday after Bridgwater for another year.”

“If it doesn’t work out in terms of the collection or spectator numbers then we’ll look at it again in the future and consider the options.”

Last year, Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here that the committee had considered moving the carnival to the Friday night before Bridgwater Carnival in a bid to increase spectator numbers but the plans caused uproar among several carnival clubs and the proposal did not go ahead.

This year’s Burnham and Highbridge procession takes place on Monday November 3rd with the seafront fireworks scheduled for the night before.

The 2015 event will take place on November 9th as a result of this week’s decision.
