These were the scenes in Burnham-On-Sea’s town centre as council staff began a five-hour carnival clean-up operation during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Sedgemoor District Council’s Clean Surroundings Team started work at 4am to ensure roads along the carnival route – the High Street, Victoria Street, Marine Drive and Love Lane – were clean in time for the start of the working day.

Spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The dedicated staff started at 4am and finished just before 9am.”

“It’s not easy to tell how much rubbish was collected as we had many different vans and lorries going to and fro to different depots to unload – just to say it was a lot.”

The annual clean-up in Burnham-On-Sea costs around £4,500, she added.
