New Burnham-On-Sea Carnival Queen Hannah Sainsbury is crowned

Fifteen year-old Hannah Sainsbury was crowned Burnham-On-Sea’s new Carnival Queen during a special ceremony in the town last night (Friday, April 29th).

The annual Carnival Queen and Princess Pageant evening took place at Burnham’s Princess Theatre, where Hannah was chosen by a panel of judges to lead this year’s carnival parade.

Hannah, a pupil at King Alfred School, told Burnham-On-Sea.com she is delighted to have been picked for the role. “I really didn’t expect to win – it’s a great feeling! It will be an honour lead the carnival.”

The judges also selected this year’s two Carnival Princesses – 13 year-old Racheal Nicol and 8 year-old Olivia Moores.

Organiser Tony Rees told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We had a superb quality line-up of entrants this year – 19 girls in total. They were all marvellous and the judges had a tough job in choosing the winners.”

During the evening, each of the nominees was asked a question and encouraged to show their individual personalities. The judges – Zoe Hughes, Phil New, Tina Hook and Sam Lock – then assessed them and picked the winners.

Carnival Chairman Phil New thanked last year’s Queen, Abbi Fear, for all her work throughout the past 12 months.

The queen’s selection is the first event in the run-up to this year’s Highbridge and Burnham Carnival on Monday November 7th, which is extra special this year as it will be celebrating its 70th anniversary.

The judges were Zoe Hughes, Phil New, Tina Hook and Sam Lock
