Fundraising walker calls in at Burnham on trek around UK coastline

-

A former soldier who is walking around Britain’s coastline to raise money for injured troops got a warm welcome in Burnham-On-Sea this week.

Christian Nock is walking around the whole country to raise funds for the charity Help For Heroes. He began his trek on 8th August in Blackpool and aims to walk the whole 7,000 miles over the course of 18 months.

Christian has taken his challenge a step further by choosing to sleep rough every night and he is carrying all his clothes and equipment with him.

Speaking to Burnham-On-Sea.com on the town’s seafront, where he visited the pier, he said: “I chose to go anti-clockwise around the coastline so that I spend the winter in the south of the country and I should see Scotland at a beautiful time of the year.”

“I am nearing 100 days of walking and I am now onto my sixth pair of boots but I am having an amazing time. The people that I meet and the places I visit keep me going. I try not to look too far ahead at the map!”

Christian spent his first night in our area at Brean and then stayed in Burnham-On-Sea on Monday so that he could watch the carnival.

He ended up helping Burnham Lions with their fundraising float and walked the route twice, helping to pick up coins which had fallen onto the carnival route. To support Christian and follow his progress or make a donation, see his website.
