As Burnham-On-Sea’s Carnival ends, the Christmas build-up begins

-

Within a few hours of Burnham-On-Sea’s Carnival ending on Monday night, work began on installing the town’s Christmas lights along the High Street.

The Chamber of Trade oversees the installation of the 70 lights across the town centre but is unable to start until after the carnival parade in case any of the illuminations hinder the floats’ progress.

Electrician Rob Davey is pictured installing the lights in the High Street on Monday morning, adding a splash of festive colour to the town’s shopping areas.

The lights will be formally lit up on Saturday November 24th when a special switch-on event is held Christmas entertainment from 2pm-6pm with the switch-on itself being performed at 4.30pm.

This year’s switch-on, which is being organised by Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade and the Town Team, will be held outside the Somerset and Dorset pub in Burnham High Street with a sports-theme to mark the 2012 Olympics

Father Christmas will put in a special appearance and there will be festive musical entertainment from local groups.
