The winners of Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s annual Christmas lights competition were announced on Friday (December 22nd).

Three judges from the town council visited scores of streets in the area during the last few weeks to choose the very best decorations.

Cllr Dennis Davey judged the commercial properties while Cllr Pat Burge and Cllr Peter Clayton picked the best residential houses. All three praised the overall standard of entries.

In Burnham, the winner is 3 Trinity Close (pictured above) while the runner-up is 40 Love Lane. The prize for best Burnham group entry goes to 17 Rosewood Avenue and 1 Ashcott Place.

In Highbridge, the winner is 54 Poplar Estate (pictured right), while the runner-up is 25 Smith Way. First place for best Highbridge group entry goes to 20 and 22 Burnham Road. The prize for best-decorated business in both towns goes to Highbridge DIY.

Cllr Clayton (pictured below) told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was another challenging year to separate the numerous wonderful entries in the Christmas lights competition. We spent many a happy hour covering all the streets in Burnham and Highbridge in order that not a single entry was missed.”

“I have to say the standard of entries is going up and up with some truly magical displays. At the end of the day it could have been any of six or seven properties that could have taken the awards but we felt the Poplar Estate and Trinity Close houses were just a cut above the rest.”

“The best group award was outstanding and we felt that the two properties on Rosewood Avenue and Ashcott Place had worked extremely hard and a great deal of effort had been put in to give so much pleasure to everyone who was able to go and have a look. Clearly, the Trinity Rise area should not go without mention gaining national fame for our town – year upon year they do us proud.”

“Whilst it was a very difficult task to separate the winners we enjoyed the experience and really appreciated all the work some people had put in at this time of year.”

The winners will be invited to the next Town Council meeting, on Monday 8th January, to be presented with their cups and certificates.
