Burnham resident calls for more Town Council transparency

-

A Burnham-On-Sea resident has this week called for more transparency around Town Council meetings to encourage more input from the general public.

Sylvia Young, pictured, told councillors at their meeting this week that more should be done to open up the council’s proceedings to residents.

“I would like to see the council being more open, relaxed and customer-friendly,” she said.

“There must be better ways to get input from residents besides the brief ‘question time’ section at the start of each monthly meeting.”

“I am asking that you reconsider your stance and encourage more people to get involved and have their say. The council could consider holding surgeries.”

She added: “At the moment, the only time we see many councillors is at election time when they want our votes!”

Burnham and Highbridge Mayor Martin Cox said the matter would be considered further at the council’s next Policy and Finance Committee meeting, to be held in October.
