£32,000 funding windfall for Burnham-On-Sea Cricket Club

-

Burnham-On-Sea Cricket Club is celebrating this week after receiving a huge £32,000 windfall which will enable it to go ahead with a major new project.

The club, which is based at Burnham’s BASC Ground, has been awarded the cash by Sedgemoor District Council from a fund of property development contributions.

The money will be used to build a new £40,000 practice area on the playing fields at the BASC Ground which the club hopes will attract more players of all ages.

Chairman Andy Birkett told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are delighted with the news. We’ll now be able to go ahead with work to install a triple-lane cricket nets area with an artificial surface that will be allow practice even when games are underway.”

“This is a real boost for the club and I hope we can get the new facilities installed by early summer.”

“We applied for the funding last May and agreed to put in over £6,000 from our funds.”

The club has received a total of £32,229.12 of RLT3 funding, which originates from contributions from developers towards outdoor sports facilities to offset the building of new homes in the area.

The application received the backing of Sedgemoor District Council, the Coastal Cluster group and Burnham and Highbridge Town Council.

Burnham Cricket Club is one of the longest-running organisations in the town, with a 152-year-old history. Its 150th anniversary in 2011 was featured here.
