Sedgemoor’s Dog Wardens are offering dog owners in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge a chance to have their pets micro chipped.

Micro chipping is now recognised as the most effective and secure way of permanently identifying a pet.

Usual fees are between £15 and £30, but Sedgemoor District Council is offering the service at a cost of £12 per dog at two special sessions over the next few days. It follows the success of a similar session held in June 2006.

Many dogs and cats are lost or stolen and this can be distressing for pet owners. Of the many thousands of dogs that go missing each year, it is estimated that less than half are reunited with their owners.

If Sedgemoor’s Dog Wardens find a lost dog and it is found with a micro chip, they can contact the national database to find the owner’s details. The owner is then contacted and reunited with their pet.
