Burnham dog owners fined as council launches fouling crackdown

-

Several dog owners in Burnham-On-Sea have been issued with fines for allowing their pets to foul public places during a new crackdown by Sedgemoor Dstrict Council.

The animals were spotted being walked in public areas, leaving mess on pavements over the past fortnight.

Since the beginning of June, Sedgemoor’s Dog Warden (pictured) has issued ten fixed penalty notices for dog fouling offences.

Tickets have been issued in residential and seaside areas of Burnham and Bridgwater.

“We are keen to ensure that dog fouling does not blight our pavements for residents and visitors,” council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“The enforcement action demonstrates Sedgemoor District Council’s commitment to dealing with this type of anti-social behaviour and ensuring that those responsible are appropriately dealt with.”

Fixed Penalty Notice charges see fines of £50 for payment within a week or £75 within two weeks. Failure to pay instigates court proceedings where a much larger fine can be awarded.

Residents who are concerned about dog fouling issues in the Burnham and Highbridge area should contact Sedgemoor’s Dog Warden on 0845 408 2540 for the matter to be investigated further.
