Arrests after drugs raids in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge

-

A series of drugs raids in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge over the past week has resulted in a number of arrests by police.

Officers have searched ten addresses over the past week and seized a variety of drugs, including cannabis and amphetamine.

At one Burnham address, a woman was arrested, and later charged, for possession of drugs and an assault on an officer. A 19 year-old woman will appear at Taunton Deane Magistrates Court on March 20th.

At a nearby address in Highbridge, two men were arrested and one cautioned for possession of amphetamine.

Two men in Highbridge Quay were also cautioned for possession of cannabis, while a third man was arrested for possession with intent to supply drugs.

The police are also appealing to the public for information about anyone who has been living at an abandoned house at 6 South Street, Burnham, where cannabis had been cultivated. They would like the owner of the property to contact PC Tracey Stiles at Burnham Police Station via the force’s 101 number.

Burnham Police’s Sgt Ian Kennett told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The communities are still telling me that they want the police to target the misuse of drugs and these raids are a part of our response. We have found more than 10 cannabis cultivation sites in the past year in the local area.”

The town centre beat team has also begun carrying out drug testing of customers entering licensed premises in an effort to reduce drug use in the town. It is supported by the licensees and the operation will continue throughout the spring and summer.
