A 48-year-old man who was killed in a crash in Bridgwater last Tuesday has this week been named as Ron Nutt of Highbridge.

He was driving north on the A38 from Bridgwater when his Citroen Xantia left the road and hit a tree just before the Dunball roundabout at about 2pm, as we first reported here.

Mr Nutt was pronounced dead at the scene and a five year-old boy who was also in the car was taken to Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital, but was later declared unhurt.

The A38 was shut by police to allow the air ambulance to land, which led to long delays for motorists.

Police appealed for witnesses and anyone who saw the collision who has not yet spoken to them to contact their Collision Investigation Unit on 101.
