Burnham-On-Sea firefighters were called to help tackle a roof fire near Bridgwater on Sunday afternoon (September 10th).

The fire service was called to reports of a roof alight at Cricketer Farm, Cannington Road in Nether Stowey, near Bridgwater, which is used as shop retail premises.

One fire appliance from Nether Stowey and two fire appliances from Bridgwater were initially sent to the incident.

On arrival a further fire appliance was requested from Williton along with an aerial ladder platform from Bridgwater.

“There was a large amount of smoke issuing from the roof, and we attempted to protect other properties using two hose reel jets and one main jet,” said a spokesman.

At 12.30pm crews requested a further two fire appliances from Taunton and one from Burnham-On-Sea plus a command support unit from Wiveliscombe.

“By 12.50pm, the incident had been ‘sectorised; and the crews were at work removing roof pan tiles to gain access to the fire. The aerial ladder platform was also in use.”

Crews also used four breathing apparatus and two roofing ladders to remove roofing material and tiles.

Fire knocked back into roof space and now reaching fire that was not previously accessible.
