These were the scenes when Burnham-On-Sea fire crews tackled a big blaze at the former Highbridge Hotel on Monday evening (October 17th).

Two fire engines from Burnham rushed to the scene at 4.54pm and on arrival they found the property well alight, as pictured above.

“A third of the building was involved in the fire,” fire spokesman Paul Slavin told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The roof and a whole floor inside the derelict property was destroyed.

A hydraulic platform from Bridgwater was also sent to the scene, as pictured. Crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze.

Fire crews finally left the scene shortly after 9.50pm when the blaze was finally put out.

The A38 through Highbridge was temporarily closed to all traffic while emergency services were at the scene. Police placed diversions in place for motorists.
