Burnham-On-Sea fireman retires after 20 years of service

-

A Burnham-On-Sea firefighter has retired after 20 years of tackling blazes across the area.

Phil Hemmings was presented with a mounted axe by Burnham station commander Ian Hazelton, as pictured, during a special retirement party at the Avenue Lawn Tennis Club in Burnham.

Phil has served as a retained firefighter at Burnham for the past 20 years, having joined in September 1988.

Phil had over 50 guests join him in his celebration for his retirement, including past and present fire personnel, friends and family members.

Ian told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Phil’s a great character and will be missed greatly by us all.”

Phil hasn’t finished work for good as he will still be a familiar face in Burnham running his hardware store on Burnham High Street.
