Fundraising football match to be held in memory of Burnham-On-Sea players

-

A memorial football match is to be played for two Burnham-On-Sea football legends later this week and raise funds for charity.

The John McErlain x11 vs Luke Buckingham x11 fixture will be held at Burnham United on Saturday 25th May at 12pm, raising funds for Bloodwise, which funds research into blood cancers including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

Burnham Utd’s Ross McErlain told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This game was set up to remember two fantastic men who had a huge passion for football and did a lot for their respective football communities.”

“John McErlain coached numerous Burnham Utd junior teams before eventually managing the men’s first team. He also held many jobs at the club behind the scenes.”

“Luke Buckingham played as a goalkeeper professionally and semi-professionally, coached at Bridgwater College Academy where he earned the role of goalkeeper coach for England schools and left a legacy for the college’s sport that will never be forgotten.”

“This is just a few things they achieved in their lives and we hope as many people will join us at Burnham United on Saturday 25th May at 12pm to celebrate their lives and raise as much money for this amazing cause as possible.”

The game will be raising money for Bloodwise, helping towards the already huge total of over £90,000 that’s already been raised.
