Highbridge student wins prestigious award for fighting discrimination

-

A Highbridge school pupil has won a prestigious award for challenging discrimination.

Gemma Cain from Highbridge’s King Alfred School Sixth Form was presented the prestigious individual prize during the annual Somerset Anne Frank Awards.

The ceremony recognises the work of young people from across Somerset who challenge discrimination of all kinds.

“Gemma was rewarded for her work as a member of the UK Youth Parliament and in working tirelessly to combat bullying in schools,” said King Alfred School’s Simon Aylward.

“Her book, full of activities and ideas to raise awareness and to defeat bullying, has been distributed across schools in Sedgemoor.”

“Gemma fully deserves this prize as she continues to be an active citizen and role model for younger people in our community.”

Gemma was given the award by Eva Schloss, Anne Frank’s step-sister, who recalled her own Holocaust experiences.
