Brean Golf Club raises £2,000 for charity at 25th tournament

-

Brean’s popular annual Pro Celebrity Am golf tournament took place at Brean Golf Club last week and celebrated its 25th anniversary.

The event, hosted by the House family at Brean Leisure Park, was again held in support of the Injured Jockeys Fund and proved to be another successful day, with in excess of £2,000 being raised.

A total of 18 teams took part on a dry, but breezy day with the firm, fast greens making scoring tricky.

The course was presented in superb condition by Robin Williams and his team of ground staff.

83 points proved to be the winning score with two quartets totalling that number.

The countback system was deployed and the winners were The Clutterbucks on the better back 6 from the Heineken team.

The victorious team were made up of Les Clutterbuck, Mel Brown, David Jones and Brian Read and between them they are no strangers to success in this event, having all lifted the Tom Childs Trophy on previous occasions with other partners.

Third place went to the most ‘experienced’ quartet of the ‘Brean Old Stars’ as Seniors Captain Bob Hurrell led his troops to 81 points.

Long-time supporters of the event Butterworth Jones & Co saw their ‘number 2’ team finish in fourth spot with 77 points to complete the prizewinners.

Following the round, the competitors enjoyed a buffet in The Tavern ahead of the presentations.

Brean Golf Club Director of Golf Andrew March said: “This event is always one that the golfers look forward too and yet again it has been a successful and enjoyable day raising money for the Charity. The planning for next year’s event will start very soon as we look to continue the success of this long running event.”
