Bomb disposal team declares grenade safe after drama in Highbridge

-

Police have thanked companies in Highbridge for their patience after roads around the Isleport Industrial Park were closed for over three hours on Thursday (September 13th) after a grenade was found in waste at the town’s recycling centre.

An army bomb disposal team was called in from Didcot to investigate the discovery.

Police cordoned roads off around the Bennett Road centre at 3pm, halting traffic through the area until 6.20pm.

The army bomb disposal team confirmed the device was a “deactivated grenade” and it was taken away by the team.

Police spokesman Wayne Baker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Police were called at around 3pm to reports of a suspicious object being found. A bomb disposal team was called and roads were closed as a precaution.”
