Fundraising drive for 2012 Highbridge Arts Festival begins

-

Just days after the curtain fell on this year’s Highbridge Festival of the Arts, organisers have announced a fundraising concert is to be held in May to raise crucial funds to allow the 65th annual event to go ahead.

King Alfred Concert Band is to perform a special fundraising event at St John’s Church in Highbridge on Saturday May 14th to help try and secure the future of the 2012 Festival, which currently has a funding shortfall of almost £9,000.

Tickets for the concert are on sale now from organiser Jenny Golding on 01278 785465.

Maureen Phillips, General Secretary of the festival, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the fundraiser comes after another successful event, which ended on Friday.

“We have had a very successful Festival this year. The audience figures are well up on other years and we have had a lot of support from local people,” she said.

“The dance section had, as usual, the highest entries. Speech and Drama was well supported, especially by local schools. The music section was also very busy. This is the only section of the Festival to award Honours awards – that is a mark over 90. The performances have all been entertaining and very enjoyable.”

“King Alfred Concert Band played for us on Friday night and closed the Festival in grand style. The volunteers have now all gone away for a well earned rest as the festival is hard work, but also very enjoyable.”

“Thanks go to all our wonderful performers, to all the audiences who came along to watch and support us, and to all the volunteers, without whom we would not be able to produce this lovely annual event.”
