Highbridge girl’s Christmas single for Brain Tumour Research reaches #1 on Amazon

-

A six-year-old Highbridge girl who was diagnosed with a brain tumour when she was a baby has released a charity Christmas single to help raise funds for a charity close to her heart.

Lyra Cole has made the touching recording of the festive classic ‘When A Child is Born’ to raise money for the charity Brain Tumour Research.

Hundreds of messages of support for Lyra have been posted on Burnham-On-Sea.com’s social media pages this week.

The single is being sold as a 99 pence download on Amazon here and has become the UK’s number one single and the UK’s second best-selling album.

Lyra, who is a pupil at Berrow School, was just five months old when she underwent emergency surgery to remove a brain tumour after being initially misdiagnosed with a virus.

The tumour, which was orange-sized, took 11 hours to remove and Lyra also underwent a second procedure to restore her sight.

With the help of her aunt, Jessie Hawkes, Lyra has now recorded the single and performs in the video accompanying it. Funds from the single will go to Brain Tumour Research and the family has also set up a social media fundraiser for the charity.

Jessie said: “We chose the track When a Child is Born because I think it will really resonate with people and I hope that when they listen and see the video they will think about everything Lyra has been through and make a donation to give hope to families who, like us, know the devastation caused by a brain tumour.”

The single was shot at several local locations including Sanders Garden Centre, Mendip Snowsport Centre and Tropicana Icescape. To buy Lyra’s Christmas single click here.
