Horse rescued from water-filled ditch by Burnham fire crews

-

Burnham-On-Sea fire crews rescued a horse stuck in a water-filled ditch on Saturday.

Crews were called to Yardwell Road in the village of Mark just before 1pm. One fire appliance from Burnham attended along with a special water rescue team from Bridgwater.

“The elderly horse was stuck upright in the water-filled ditch and was having difficulty getting out,” a spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Crews entered the water wearing drysuits in order to remove vegetation from around the horse and then strops and lines were used to release the horse from the ditch unharmed.”

Update 7/10/13: Sadly, the horse later passed away
