Crowds of visitors flocked to Burnham-On-Sea Horticultural Society’s annual Spring Show on Saturday (March 12th).

Show Secretary David Bryant said the event, which was held in St Andrew’s School, had been a resounding success with a large number of entries and a steady flow of visitors throughout the day.

Flower entries judge Don Everitt told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The overall standard has been very high despite some poor weather in recent weeks. The hall has been full of colourful entries, with the hyacinths and daffodils standing out.”

And Joyce Armin, who judged the cooking classes, added: “We’ve seen lots of the ‘wow factor’ here today, with a lovely selection of superb cakes.”

The entries at Saturday’s annual event covered gardening, cookery, floral art and photography.

The trophy for the best exhibit in the show went to Joy Hutchins, pictured above, for her floral art entries.

The cup for the most points in the children’s classes was shared three ways by Olivia Dollery, Thea Bagg and Daisy Burt.

Young Ophelia Buckton, pictured right, was celebrating too after scooping first prize in the cakes category for her chocolate Easter entry.

Show Secretary Mr Bryant told Burnham-On-Sea.com he was pleased with how the event had gone.

“The total number of exhibitors was up by about a third and we were particularly pleased to see lots of entries in the children’s categories this year.”
