A team of fitness enthusiasts from Highbridge’s King Alfred Sports Centre has taken part in a global fitness campaign called ‘Let’s Move for a Better World.’

1610 leisure centres across the South West have donated more than 5 million moves of physical activity to the campaign encouraging communities to become more active by donating moves or physical activity over a three week period.

King Alfred Sports Centre at Highbridge donated an impressive 507,610 moves and was placed 67th in the whole UK.

This latest fitness campaign has been the most successful that 1610 has ever been involved with.

Organiser and 1610 Assistant General Manager Kelly Ellison says that the campaign has proved to be a real winner with local children: “We are thrilled that more than two thousand children were inspired and enthused by the campaign, they particularly loved the interactive PRAMA studios at our King Alfred Sports Centre site.”

“They learned first- hand that exercise does not have to be a chore but can be fun and exciting and should be an integral part of their lives for many years to come. If we can get this message over to the young it can also have an impact on the wider community.”

In Somerset 1610 centres at Bridgwater and Chard were the most successful donating more than two million moves in total. Trinity Sports & Leisure in Bridgwater achieved 1,445, 886 moves (27th in the national UK rankings). 1610 Chard donated 1,039,659 moves (37th in the UK).

1610 is a non-profit making leisure trust (formerly Somerset Leisure) which manages leisure centres based on school sites across Somerset, Devon and Dorset.
