-

The M5 near Burnham-On-Sea was temporarily closed on Thursday afternoon (September 11th) after a serious crash involving up to five vehicles.

Two people were taken to hospital following the collision on the southbound carriageway at 1.20pm.

The motorway was temporarily closed to allow the air ambulance to land on the northbound carriageway besides the crash scene, next to Sedgemoor Services.

An ambulance spokeswoman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Two people – a male and a female – were treated by our crews.”

“A man with serious chest injuries was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, as the nearest trauma centre, and a female was also taken there for treatment as well.”

The M5 did not fully re-open until around 4.45pm once recovery of the vehicles was completed.
