Council tax payers in Burnham-On-Sea will not have to foot the bill to remove double yellow lines that have been mistakenly painted along a busy town road.

Contractors working on behalf of Somerset County Council have admitted that they added the lines along Marine Drive in error and have agreed to remove them.

A spokesperson for Somerset County Council told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Due to an error made by our contractor, additional yellow lines were marked on Marine Drive. They have arranged for the lines to be removed and this will be done within the next fortnight. This will be at no cost to the county council.”

Resurfacing work has been taking place in Marine Drive during recent weeks. Local residents were left surprised when the lines appeared earlier this week – temporarily making it illegal to park there.
