Second term for Eric as he’s re-elected Burnham-On-Sea Mayor

Popular Burnham-On-Sea Mayor Eric Gill was re-elected to the post for a second year this week when councillors picked their officials for 2006/2007.

Cllr Gill said he and Mayoress Gilli Kenyon-Gill were “honoured and delighted” to be re-elected for a second year.

He thanked the public, councillors, press, his chaplain and cadet for their “superb support” during the year and added that he was looking forward to another busy year.

Cllr Gill said he hoped to hold the annual Civil Service in Highbridge this September instead of Burnham-On-Sea and said more events would be split between the two towns.

Dave Parry was chosen as Deputy Mayor, and Cllr David Poole became Second Deputy Mayor. Highbridge Vicar, the Rev Robin Lodge, will become the Mayor’s Chaplain.

Town council leader Peter Clayton praised Cllr Gill, saying : “You have done an excellent job this year and we’re very pleased to see you in post for a second term.”

Burnham’s new Second Deputy Mayor said he was ‘delighted’ to have been chosen for the post.

Burnham's Second Deputy Mayor, David PooleDavid, 63, has been in local politics for 46 years and has been a member of Burnham and Highbridge Town Council for the last six years. He represents the Love Lane ward.

He also has a long family history in the town. “My parents were heavily involved with Burnham and my grandfather saw out the last train at Burnham Railway station. They’d be proud to see me in this post.”

“A big thank you goes to all those who have supported me in Burnham and Highbridge over the years.”
