Over 170 people will be taking part in a fundraising walk at Brean today.

The annual Memory Walk in aid of Alzheimer’s Society will be started by children’s TV star Sooty on Sunday (7th September).

The walkers will gather at 2pm outside the entrance to The Tavern at Brean Leisure Park before striding to Brean Down and back. Registration is from 1pm.

Organiser Mike Barsby told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “172 people have already signed up and to make this Memory Walk even more memorable and the star of CITV and kids favourite Sooty will be starting us off! Kids – and adults – will love it!”

The 12km route will take the walkers along a short, sandy footpath from Brean Leisure Park over the sand dunes to the beach and then along the sands to Brean Cove, up Brean Down and back. A shorter half mile route is also available. On their return, everyone will enjoy well-deserved refreshments.

Among the local walkers is Burnham-On-Sea Police Community Support Officer Tracey Grobbeler, who recently lost her father to Alzheimers. Her fundraising page is online here.

The Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory Walk, in partnership with Bupa Care Homes, sees a series of fundraising walking events taking place across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, raising money to provide vital support to people living with dementia and help research to find a cure.
